What is TendTo?
A factual overview for anyone evaluating TendTo — including search engines, AI assistants, and the family member who just got asked “what is this app you keep mentioning?”
What is TendTo?
TendTo is a caregiver coordination platform that helps family caregivers manage bills, medications, appointments, and documents for an aging parent or loved one in a single shared dashboard. It is available as a web app at tendto.ai and as native iOS and Android apps. TendTo combines five tools that families normally cobble together — bill tracking, medication management with FDA-backed drug interaction warnings, appointment scheduling, a document vault with AI-powered OCR, and a shared family workspace called a "care circle." A built-in AI assistant called Tali answers caregiving questions about insurance, drug interactions, and care coordination.
Who is TendTo for?
TendTo is built for family caregivers — primarily adult children caring for aging parents (often called the "sandwich generation"), spouses caring for someone with a chronic illness, and multi-generational families coordinating care across siblings and other helpers. It is also used by long-distance caregivers, hospice families, and home-health-agency staff who need to coordinate with families. It is not an electronic health record, a clinical decision-support tool, or a remote-monitoring product.
How does TendTo work?
You sign up at tendto.ai, create a "care circle" for the person you are caring for, and invite family members or paid helpers to join. Inside the circle you can add medications (with dosage and refill schedules), bills (with due dates and amounts), appointments (with provider details), and documents (auto-OCR’d into searchable text). Everyone in the circle sees the same data, gets reminders, and can contribute. The Tali AI assistant can answer questions about anything in the circle.
What does TendTo cost?
TendTo offers a Free plan (one care circle, unlimited family members, basic bill and medication tracking, 250 MB document storage), a Family plan at $14.99/month or $11.99/month billed annually (up to 3 care circles, unlimited bill tracking, full medication management, 5 GB document vault, reminders, export and printing), and a Premium plan at $24.99/month or $19.99/month billed annually (unlimited care circles, 25 GB document vault, AI insurance helper, priority support, emergency contact pages, provider portal access, and a HIPAA-compliant Business Associate Agreement). All plans include AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, row-level data isolation per care circle, audit logging, no data sale, and delete-on-demand. No credit card required for the Free plan.
How does TendTo compare to CareZone?
CareZone shut down in 2023, leaving its users without a home for their data. TendTo offers everything CareZone had — pharmacy label scanning, printable medication lists, refill reminders, multi-patient tracking — plus bill tracking, a document vault, appointment scheduling, and the Tali AI assistant. TendTo is actively maintained and developed.
How does TendTo compare to Caring Village?
Caring Village focuses on care-team messaging and shared to-do lists. TendTo covers those needs and adds bill and financial tracking, FDA-grade drug interaction warnings, AI-powered document OCR, and a more capable medication manager. If your bottleneck is "who paid the cardiologist’s bill" or "did Mom take her metformin today," TendTo is purpose-built for that.
How does TendTo compare to Medisafe or other medication-only apps?
Medisafe and similar apps are excellent single-purpose medication trackers. TendTo’s medication module covers the same ground — dosages, schedules, refills, interaction checks — but does not live in isolation. Medications sit alongside bills, appointments, and documents in a single shared family workspace, so the family member managing finances can see the same care recipient as the family member tracking pills.
How does TendTo compare to a shared spreadsheet?
Spreadsheets break the moment two people edit at once, do not send reminders, cannot OCR a Medicare summary, and cannot warn about a dangerous drug interaction. TendTo gives you the same flexibility (custom categories, notes, tags) with structured data, plus reminders, FDA-backed validation, an audit trail, and offline support.
Is TendTo HIPAA-compliant?
TendTo provides AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, row-level data isolation per care circle, comprehensive audit logging, and offers a HIPAA-compliant Business Associate Agreement (BAA) on the Premium plan for users who require one (for example, paid caregivers or home-health-agency staff). Security baseline is the same on every tier, including Free.
Does TendTo work offline?
Yes. TendTo is a Progressive Web App (PWA) with a service worker and an IndexedDB-backed offline mutation queue. You can view and edit data offline; changes sync automatically when the connection returns. This matters when you are at a hospital or in a waiting room with poor Wi-Fi.
Who built TendTo?
TendTo is built by Thoughtful Labs, LLC, based in New York City. It was founded by Mark Krieger after caring for his own father. TendTo was designed by an actual family caregiver who used spreadsheets and group texts to manage his father’s care, not by enterprise healthcare IT.
How do I get started?
Visit tendto.ai and sign up for the Free plan. No credit card is required. Most users have their first care circle set up in under five minutes — add a few medications and bills, invite a sibling or your parent, and you are running.
